Memorial Day Weekend Ideas
Here are some ideas to celebrate Memorial Day Weekend this year, May 23 through to May 28.
Attend Memorial Day Parade in NYC on Monday, May 27. There are several venues in each borough, but the most iconic is in Bay Ridge in King's County (or simply Brooklyn). It starts at 11am at 78th St and Third Ave, marching up to Fourth Ave and ends at John Paul Jones Park on 101st for the memorial service. Come to Rockaway Beach and enjoy the openeing of the season. here, too, Memorial Day Parade will start at 11:00 am at Beach 129th Street at St. Francis Church. This is a traditional summer kick-off and families flock to the beach for picnicking, dining out, sightseeing, biking, water sports, and cruises. Attend Memorial Day Beach Campfire at Jacob Riis Park Friday, May 24 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM Join park staff for the traditional kickoff to the summer season: our annual Memorial Day beach campfire program! Enjoy stories, music, the sunset, the surf and the sand! Roast some marshmallows, and make 'smores! It's a great way to enjoy your park! Bring a blanket or beach chair. Program will be cancelled in case of inclement weather.
Enjoy a Wildflower Exploration at Jamaica Bay Wildlife Refuge Saturday, May 25 2:00 PM - 3:30 PM Flowers are back! Park rangers will welcome them with a gentle walk through the park. They will identify native wildflowers, and greet them with verses of poetry and song that were inspired by them. Walk will end with a peek into the pollinator garden to learn a few tips on using flowers to protect the environment. All ages welcome. ♥ 1.5 miles
Sail with Jamaica Bay Sunset Cruise Pier 7, Sheepshead Bay Sunday, May 26 (Rain Date: May 27) 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM Join us for this popular 3-hour narrated tour of Jamaica Bay aboard the Golden Sunshine boat, leaving from Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. See nesting ospreys, peregrine falcons, shorebirds, egrets, ibis, and waterfowl and learn about the history, wildlife, and management issues of this 13,000-acre preserve.
